You can e-file documents alongside tax returns which enables you to submit supporting documents, such as financial statements, to Inland Revenue seamlessly as part of the tax return e-filing process.
Please refrain from using this functionality to send documents that require Inland Revenue (IR) to take action in relation to the tax return. Inland Revenue will not review these documents before assessing the tax return. For specific requests, please submit them via myIR
Attaching documents for e-filing
Go to Filing and Payment Schedule, upload the documents that are to be e-filed to the Files tab. Once uploaded, click the cog and select Add to Efile.
The documents that have been added to e-file will show in Step 1 – Ready to Sign under the heading Documents.
To remove documents from filing, click the cog next to the file and select Remove from E-file.
Continue to follow the process for e-filing the tax return.
When the documents have been successfully filed, a Document ID and confirmation they have been received by IR will display next to each document.
Timing of document filing
First, the tax return is filed with Inland Revenue. Once the tax return has been successfully filed, the documents are then submitted. It's important to note that there may be a delay between when the tax return is filed and when the documents are filed.
If Inland Revenue holds the return for manual processing, the documents will only be filed once Inland Revenue has processed the return.
In the event that the tax return encounters an error, the documents will not be filed until the return is successfully filed.
Limitations on documents
- Only PDF files can be attached for e-filing.
- File size must be less than 9Mb.
- File name must be less than 255 characters.
