Edit a tax return once e-filing has begun

Modified on Fri, 4 Apr at 5:25 PM

Overview

There are situations where an income tax return may be considered ready to file, but then subsequently require changes. Taxlab allows you to set a return that is read to file back to draft, and make amendments. The E-filing process is split into 3 main steps:

  • Step 1 – Ready to Sign
  • Step 2 – Ready to File
  • Step 3 – Filing

Edit a return that is ready to sign

When Step 1 of the E-File process has been completed (Ready to sign), the software will create a version of the return, titled '20XX return filing - Return for signature'. A header bar will display, notifying that 'the current period is set to read-only for all users'. Should any updates be necessary before e-filing, select Set back to Draft.

Edit a tax return after filing

The software allows users to make adjustments even after filing a return, without affecting the filing status or the E-Filed data, by working in a live data version. This is useful for cases where a return has been filed but adjustments are needed, such as marking tax payments as tax paid for a future year. From the side navigation panel, select Live Data. To return to the e-filed version, from the side navigation panel, in the Version dropdown, select (20XX return filing – File Return).

Amendments

TaxLab does not currently support the filing of amended returns. Any necessary amendments to tax returns that have already been successfully filed should be completed directly through myIR.
